Shevington Sharks, the third oldest amateur rugby club in the Wigan area, has gone from strength to strength as the 2018 season draws to a close. IKO is once again proud sponsors of the team, and just like the Sharks, IKO is proud to serve the local community in and around Wigan.
Each of the team’s three categories: under 16s, under 18s and Open Age, who just missed out on the play-offs in the North West Men’s Premier division, had a very positive season this year. However, it was the under 16s team who really excelled.
Under the guidance of coaches Mick Cassidy and Anthony Riley, six members of the squad have now gained professional contracts with Super League clubs next season. Umyla Hanley, Zack Lee, Harry Rushton, Alfie Cassidy, Niall Smith and Jack Bibby are now looking forward to taking their rugby careers to the next level.
Ian Robinson, Chairman of Shevington Sharks ARLFC commented: “The Sharks are so proud of our boys who really shone this year. Results are very encouraging and you can already see superstars in the making.
“A special mention should go out to all the coaches, assistants and parents for their continued help and support. The Sharks are nearing the close of 2018, but are already looking forward to the 2019 season.
There will be challenges, but as always these will be met head on and we look forward to many more success stories.”
IKO wishes the Shevington Sharks another successful season and hopes the club continues to build on their impressive achievements in 2019.
