IKO was pleased to attend the presentation evening of Shevington Sharks, the third oldest amateur rugby club in the Wigan area at the close of a successful 2018 season. On Saturday 27 October, two Shevington Sharks legends, Craig Fisher and Mick Cassidy were thanked for their dedication to the club.
Under 13s coach Craig Fisher introduced a new team of Under 12s this year, taking responsibility for the new team on top of his existing responsibilities until new coaches were trained. At the same time, Craig delivered an eight-week block of coaching sessions at Shevington High School, helping to develop rugby within the pupils.
Craig’s hard work and dedication was recently recognised by the Rugby Football League at their 2018 Community Awards where Craig was named ‘Children’s Coach of the Year’.
Under 16s coach Mick Cassidy was also honoured at the presentation. Thanks to Mick’s support, six members of the Shevington Sharks Under 16s team signed professional contracts this year and are now looking forward to promising rugby careers.
Mick also provides rugby coaching to local primary school children and in the past year, has single-handedly run two fundraising events to raise £3000 towards new sports pitches at Vicarage Lane which both the Shevington Sharks and Shevington FC will benefit from.
Steve Bates, Treasurer of the Shevington Sharks commented: “We are immensely grateful for IKO’s continued support of the Shevington Sharks. IKO recognise all the hard work that each volunteer puts into the team – without them there would be no club.”
Paul Thompson, Divisional Sales Manager at IKO Plc added: “It was an honour to attend the Shevington Sharks’ presentation evening and celebrate both Craig and Mick’s contribution to their local community. IKO is proud to sponsor the Shevington Sharks and wishes the club another successful season.”
