The role of a car park surfacing and waterproofing wear course is to protect the waterproofing membrane and subsequent layers from any damage that traffic or mechanical, chemical and natural factors can cause. It can also provide the roughness of the finished surface, if desired, and when combined with a top coat, can also create non-slip resistance.
Wear courses are the crucial link between the top coat and the waterproofing layer of a liquid applied surfacing and waterproofing solution that ensures the crack bridging capability of the system. A high quality wear course retains its flexibility for uncompromised protection and permanent water resistance in both sub-zero temperatures and stability in extreme heat. This is also helpful for car park surface detailing works that require precision.
Wear courses are fast curing two- or three-component liquid applied car park surfacing and waterproofing components that can allow for the surface to be trafficable soon after installation. They are wet-on-wet applications that allow each layer of the system to be covered almost instantly but to benefit from this feature, care should be taken to select compatible components. Car parks are often time sensitive projects where prolonged closures can cause inconvenience but also revenue losses.
