EPDM Roofing

EPDM roofing uses ethylene propylene diene monomer membranes as a part of a single-ply, cold applied roofing system. Synthetic rubber roofing membranes are versatile, flexible, and durable. They are easy to install using water based adhesives and a brush or roller. This single-ply roof system can be laid over concrete and timber decks. Some membranes may be installed directly over thermal insulation boards with suitable facings and sufficient compressive and interlaminar strength.

The suitability of EPDM roofing membranes extends to new and refurbishment projects across residential and commercial sectors. They are often used for high traffic areas and industrial gutters. With little or no joints, even over large roof areas, EPDM membranes are well suited for green roofs. Some EPDM membranes are root resistant, but manufacturer technical sheets should be checked to ensure specification of additional root barriers isn’t required. The fire resistant qualities and durability of the membrane make it popular for roofs that feature PV panels.

EPDM membranes should not be installed if humidity exceeds 80% or the temperature falls below 5 ºC. However, its installation is especially suited for projects restricted by weather gaps. The curing times of EPDM membranes will vary depending on the climate and the thickness of the membrane.

Synthetic rubber membranes are lightweight and flexible, allowing precise installation using minimum tools. They are an effective solution for roofs with a large number of upstands, internal and external corners, kerbs and other roof detailing such as pipes and rainwater outlets.

What are the benefits of EPDM roofing membranes?

  • Fire resistant qualities
  • UV resistant
  • Lightweight and flexible
  • Exceptionally durable
  • Relatively easy to install

EPDM membranes are UV resistant and highly durable and can help form exceptionally secure weather and waterproofing roof system for warm and cold roofs:

EPDM Cold Roofs

EPDM membranes are effective as weatherproofing for cold roof systems. They are installed directly onto the roof deck over the ventilated air gap above the insulation layer.

EPDM Warm Roofs

In warm roof systems, the EPDM membrane is installed over the insulation layer, or in some cases, a cover board fixed over the insulation layer. It offers complete water and weather protection.

IKO products are manufactured in the UK from responsibly, and where possible, locally sourced materials in order to reduce our carbon footprint and help with the sustainability of your project. The majority of our roofing systems are also BBA certified.
