Hot air welded solutions
Hot air welding is distinguished from other hot applications as it does not involve the use of an open flame or a gas torch to heat the waterproofing material. This means safer and faster installation in accordance with the Safe2Torch initiative by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC).
The most common use of hot air welding is on overlaps, stack flashing, pipe flashing, drip edges and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) kerbs. Technological advances mean that single ply polymeric membranes and modified bitumen membranes can now be hot air welded to create permanent, waterproofed monolithic roof systems.
Hot air welding involves the use of handheld or automatic hot air welders for fast installation. Handheld equipment is used for smaller areas where complex detailing needs to be executed. The larger machines are used for large continuous surfaces and ensure welding speeds of 5-7 metres per minute whilst the distribution remains at consistent pressure even over uneven substrates. This allows hot air welded systems to be used on warm, cold or inverted roofs of both new developments and complex refurbishments.
