Mechanically fixed roofs
Mechanically fixed roofs are held in place . These fixings secure the single ply membranes over the top of the insulation and then the air and vapour control layer is fastened in place to the roof deck. Waterproofing can be mechanically fixed; however, some systems allow for installation The fixings can be used on a variety of substrates, including steel, concrete or plywood.
Mechanically fixed roofs utilise single ply membranes that can be homogenous or polyester reinforced. These solutions can be used in cold, warm and inverted roof assemblies and are often chosen for projects where high wind uplift is expected. Mechanically fixed single ply membranes are lightweight and flexible and can help minimise the roof depth.
Mechanically fixed membranes are often specified for complex detailing and specialist installations such as simulated metal roofs. Mechanically fixed roofs are suitable for application in new build and refurbishment projects alike, and because there is a range of available finishing colours possible, designers have greater flexibility with their projects.
