Flooring solutions by application

Flooring solutions are used in a wide range of applications, from small domestic and commercial applications where design is the main function, hospitals with a requirement for hygiene, to heavy industrial floors that require high mechanical and chemical resistance. The selection of the correct flooring solution for the specific project is crucial for the effective performance and longevity of a flooring installation.

Many external applications have to withstand external weathering, dimensional movements and various loads of pedestrian or vehicular traffic whilst the detailing may be complex and require precision work. The curing times, ease of application and durability of the floor solution are all considered in the specification as is the cost effectiveness and ease of maintenance.

Flooring solutions for balconies, walkways and terraces

As these are exposed or partially exposed spaces, flooring solutions must be durable and weatherproof but also flexible in order to withstand the loads posed by pedestrian traffic and changing temperatures. Resistance to chemical corrosion or plant matter may also need to be considered. Ease of application and strength is crucial for effective application in difficult areas, such as railing posts or door and window joints. Mastic asphalt screed and cold applied solutions based on PMMA are ideal for this type of application.

Flooring solutions for podium decks

Protection, drainage, isolation, and thermal considerations are just some of the considerations that are specific to podium deck flooring solutions. These platforms are often externally weathered and may need to withstand vehicular traffic and dimensional movement among other loads whilst protecting the area below the podium deck and surrounding buildings from water ingress. Cold applied solutions based on PMMA with a compatible mastic asphalt screed are best suited for specification on podium decks.

Flooring solutions for internal flooring

The selection of internal flooring solutions will be guided by the requirements of the building’s intended use. This could include decorative purposes in domestic or small commercial applications such as hotels, to the need to withstand vehicular traffic and resistance to chemicals as required by heavy industrial use. The qualities of mastic asphalt flooring solutions, available in mat or polished finishes, is ideal for internal flooring. Specially designed mastic asphalt products that feature exposed aggregates can be used for increased visual impact.

Flooring solutions for paving

Paving solutions have to be strong and flexible to accept the mechanical loads posed by pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The ability to withstand temperature changes without impact on the integrity and durability is essential. Paving solutions are often applied across large areas, and to be effective, they need to be relatively easy, fast and cost effective to install. Curing times will also play a role in the selection process. Special grades of mastic asphalt flooring solutions are required for specification for paving application.
