Flooring components – wear course

Wear courses are a flooring component used in cold applied liquid polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) flooring systems that provides a protective layer usually specified for heavily trafficked areas. Wear courses are available in variety of colours to deliver a desired aesthetic. They can be paired with a top coat that provides a slip-resistant finish, where required. can also be used to seal the entire flooring system or to provide heavy duty surfacing.

Wear courses are two- or three-component self-levelling systems that can be used for internal application, such as stairs and galleries, but also externally for balconies and terraces. With a suitable finishing layer, they can be specified for car parks, elevated ramps and HGV service decks. Newly built projects as well as refurbishments can benefit from the rapid installation times that the solution offers.

It is crucial that a floor wear course is used with compatible flooring components to ensure the maximum performance of waterproof PMMA flooring systems. Flooring system wear courses are permanently weather resistant, root and rot resistant and remain stable in both high and low temperatures. Along with their high flexibility, they are ideal for flooring projects with complex detailing that require precision.

Fast-curing times of PMMA liquid applied flooring systems allow for the surface to be trafficable soon after installation and each layer of the system can be covered almost instantly. This allows for a speedy release of time sensitive projects.

What are the benefits of a wear course for flooring systems?
