Roof Insulation Products
Roof insulation products are essential construction components in supporting changing legislation which is placing higher demands on the thermal performance of a building envelope to reduce energy losses in both heating and cooling cycles. Acoustic and thermal properties of insulation can significantly improve occupant comfort. Roofing insulation products should also be able to withstand loads, such as foot and vehicle traffic, when used for podium, green and ballasted roofs.
Commonly used insulation materials include polyurethane foam (PIR), stone wool, expanded polystyrene (EPS), extruded polystyrene (XPS), vacuum insulated panels (VIP). Insulation materials, including boards, angle fillets and stop battens can be used for all types of flat and pitched roofs as well as metal and inverted roofs. With a suitable air vapour control layer (AVCL) they can applied over most substrates, including profiled metal decks, timber panels or screeded concrete.
Roof insulation boards are available at various compressive strengths that impact their high dimensional stability and the length of service life without the loss of insulation properties. Insulation boards also have differing thermal conductivity. Low lambda values mean better thermal performance can be achieved whilst using less insulation. For best performance, it is important that compatibility of the insulation with the waterproofing system is taken into consideration, where the application requires it.
When selecting insulation boards, lightweight boards can provide ease of transportation and handling for the installing contractors.
