Structural waterproofing - Insulation  

There are a variety of insulation products for use in structural waterproofing. Their main function is to improve the thermal performance of the building envelope. This in turn increases the energy efficiency of the building and helps to significantly reduce its carbon footprint. Due to the location this insulation, water control layers (WCL) are often used with structural waterproofing insulation as they provide an additional waterproof, vapour permeable layer. As the construction depth is often limited, vacuum insulation panels are also frequently used as structural waterproofing insulation as they offer high U-values for some of the thinnest solutions. These products are also protected with a bonded layer underneath the insulation making installation easier.

Structural waterproofing – Accessories

A variety of accessories can be used with structural waterproofing. Primers, especially in tanking, are used to prepare the surface and improve the bonding of self-adhesive membranes. Drainage composites and protection boards are used in tanking to improve performance and protect the solutions from mechanical damage. High performance cloak units are often specified for complex junctions in cavity trays where detailing would be difficult. Fillers, joining tapes and specific fixing strips and pins can be used to ensure high quality installation. Accessories that are compatible with the rest of the structural waterproofing components help speed up the installation and reduce time on site.
